What is Volcano?

A cloud for the apps, APIs and agents your coding agent builds. Frontends, functions, Postgres, auth and sandboxes live in one project, and the CLI handles setup and deploys, so your agent does the work instead of you clicking through a dashboard.

Insomnia and Volcano both come from Kong, the company behind Kong Gateway. Insomnia is where you design and test an API. Volcano is where it runs.

From prompt to a request in Insomnia

  1. Build with your agent

Paste the prompt into Claude Code, Cursor or Codex. Your agent sets up the project and writes the code.

  2. Deploy on Volcano

One command puts your API, database and functions on a public URL.

  3. Test it in Insomnia

Point Insomnia at your new endpoint. Same tool you already use, now with something live behind it.

Then paste it into your coding agent.

Database · Functions · Auth

Deploy the Petstore API

Hand your agent the Swagger Petstore spec. It builds the endpoints on Postgres and deploys them. Import the same spec into Insomnia and test the live URL, then add login for writes.

Functions · MCP

Host an MCP server

Deploy an MCP server as a Volcano function, then call its tools from Insomnia's MCP client.

Webhooks · Durable

GitHub webhook PR summarizer

Receive GitHub webhooks, summarize each PR with a durable function, and replay test payloads from Insomnia.

Start with one prompt.

Run `npm i -g @volcano.dev/cli && volcano connect --signup` and wait while I sign up.
